Looking to stay at the front of the technology curve, Daimler revealed today it is working on a next-generation fuel-cell vehicle to be built out of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and to be known as the B-Class F-Cell. The car will go into limited production next year.
Working to create a vehicle with both zero emissions and Mercedes-Benz-quality ride, comfort, luxury, and quiet, engineers at Mercedes’ Sindelfingen plant have been reworking the fuel cell from the A-Class fuel-cell car into a more powerful system for the B-Class. Improvements to the fuel cell itself include greater power output, longer range, and cold-start capability down to -25 degrees Celsius, or -13 degrees Fahrenheit.
Several B-Class F-Cell cars will be built this year with limited production beginning in 2010. With the B-Class F-Cell, Mercedes-Benz will be one of the first automakers to put fuel-cell cars on public roads.
