Brilliance Auto was the first Chinese automaker to set up shop in the United Kingdom, initially offering the midsize BS6 sedan and most recently adding the compact BS4. The company has expressed interest in exporting its cars to the United States within “about two years.”

BYD stands for “Build Your Dreams,” and the Chinese automaker certainly displayed its dreams at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, showcasing its lineup. The company reportedly plans to enter the domestic market within three to five years.

China’s Changfeng Motor Co., a Hunan-based manufacturer of sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks, has displayed models at the 2007 and 2008 Detroit auto shows and has announced plans to begin selling vehicles in the United States. It has not yet announced a time frame.

Chrysler says the subcompact A1, sold by its Chinese partner Chery Automotive, will be imported as the Dodge Breeze, but only for Mexico and South America. The larger A3 could possibly make it to the United States.

China’s Geely Automobile has made no secret of its ambition to sell cars in the United States, although that might not happen until as late as 2013, according to various reports. One model that is reportedly headed to Europe in 2009 and might come to the United States is the FC-3, which was unveiled at this year’s Beijing Auto Show.
